Nice. PKD is perhaps my favourite English language author. It's wonderful how his books aren't just nice stories to pass the time with but how they actually function as scripture complete with his own exegesis. It isn't some kind of ploy that he used for marketing or a cult. It actually seems genuine in terms of what he experienced.
That's a good view of his late works, but he went through at least two evolutions as a writer before his VALIS event. While his work is always recognizably his, and he kept the same small list of thematic concerns pretty much all the way through, Time Out of Joint comes from a very different place than Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said, and both are extremely distinct from A Scanner Darkly, even though nobody else could have written any of them.
If you don't know, he was mentor to a small group of writers in the '70s, all of whom are quite good (and quite different from their mentor), including James Blaylock and Tim Powers.
But my favorite, and the one whose writing sometimes takes the most direct influence, is K.W. Jeter, who wrote the best (in my rather unpopular opinion) cyberpunk novel, The Glass Hammer. Jeter also wrote three sequels to Blade Runner in the '90s, with the blessings of his late friend's estate.
