Is this a prison desk? Have you been posting from prison this entire time?

[-]larryseinger2(+1|0)

Yeah. Luckily I have an Internet connection here. I have blackmail material on people on power so I got them to put me in a minimum security facility. I manage my Reddit account from here.

[-]newJiminy2(+1|0)

Maxwellhill the Reddit account?

[-]LarrySwinger3(+2|0)

Okay it's done. Here's the demo.

[-]newJiminy2(+1|0)

Why would a laptop need a stand

[-]Zom3(+2|0)

Prevent slouching

First, to raise up the screen to be more ergonomic.

Second, all your other monitors are also on that shelf.

Third, to plug in a better keyboard that fits under the shelf/stand.

Since 1998 I've always insisted on raising monitors 4 to 6 inches on a shelf (even huge heavy CRTs) to be ergonomic and make more desk space. I'm currently using a laptop with a flat quad-fan under it for extra cooling. An entire box seems excessive. Not sure what the tilt is for, other than perhaps to save desk real estate. I've seen the demo.

Yes, saving space on my desk is also a big factor in this compared to an external monitor. I can put the whole thing aside, or rest my notebook on the frame of my laptop. I also insist on elevating monitors so I'll rest it on top of a plastic box or small cabinet but then that's less space for my notebook. It creates a barrier to looking at it. In the past the window sill was at an elevated height so I put my monitor on top of it and a small desk in front for resting my keyboard. The limited depth of the desk made it so I wasn't sitting too far away from the monitor. It was just perfect.

To put the screen at a higher level and for ergonomics while typing.

[-]newJiminy2(+1|0)

Ah ok now I use a height adjusting table, and I use my laptop and two other monitors which I adjust to a proper height. Yes ergononics are very important. Don't want carpel tunnel or back problems.

[-]LarrySwinger2(+1|0)

Can you adjust it to the level of a standing desk? Normally I adjust the height of the chair and the monitor but never the desk. Check out the comment above, I demonstrated it.

[-]newJiminy2(+1|0)

Yeah push a button and it rises. I like to play guitar and record and I'll be back and forth clicking on the laptop for recording things and sometimes I'll be standing up so it's nice to be able to adjust the height of the laptop and monitors. This table cost like $150 I think? But money well spent.

Definitely sounds like it's worth it. I saw them at an IT company that equips every employee with one. Humans aren't designed to sit all day.

[-]newJiminy2(+1|0)

Good point yeah humans are designed to run actually

[-]LarrySwinger2(+1|0)

Exactly. Sitting too much results in cardiovascular problems in the long term. So aside from improving their posture people should also walk around for a bit every 30 minutes.

[-]JasonCarswell2(+1|0)

The West has lost a lot by not squatting a lot.

But I still don't want to squat at a computer.

[-]newJiminy2(+1|0)

Definitely walking around is good for you. It's good to do fast paced exercises tho cuz you need the heart to pump fast so arteries don't get clogged. Running can be hard if one gets injuries as they age but there's other stuff that are low impact. I go to a gym and use a rowing machine, elliptical machine, stair master machine

[-]LarrySwinger2(+1|0)

Fuck yes. I swim and cycle. Will take on fitness when it becomes too cold to swim.

Seems there is a theme going:

It's basically a graphics card with supporting parts.
